Lend Me Your Ear and Free Vintage Three Kings Christmas Image

Hi Everybody!

Anything interesting going on in your world? Sorry it's been so long since I posted, but it has been super intersting and super busy around here. There has been several major events that have occurred in the last couple months. These events have pretty much eaten up all of my spare time.

First and probably least important, I turned the BIG 60 on my last birthday! I'm now classified as a senior! When I reflect on this piece of information, I have a hard time realizing that I've reached this milestone. I think I can't be that old, can I?

On rainy days, do my joints ache? Of course they do? Do I feel full of wisdom from all the experiences that I've had through my life? Hardly! Am I ready to sit in my rocker in the corner of the room and watch the world go by from my window? Of course not! I sure don't feel like I'm that OLD, but then again what should a 60 year old feel like?

Second, my state is in a terrible financial position, like many others out there. Our govenor is of course trying to bring down deficits. One of the things he has decided to do is close one of the few Developmentally Disabled Facilities located within our state.

I have a brother that has been living at this facility. Now we have to find him a new home. He has been institutionalized since he was two and has always had to live in areas other than our town. Primarily because there wasn't a facility in town that could provide him with the care that he needed.

Now, various Service Agencies are scrambling to provide the needed support for all the residents that are being forced to move. The good news is that one agency is opening up a facility in our town and I've been lucky enough to secure him a housing spot. It will be so nice to be able to finally bring him home and have him close to his family.

Third, it has come to my attention that a well known Scrapbooking company has acquired copies of my images and has created several scrapbook pages using my images. This company sells their sheets over the Internet as well as selling them in scrapbook and hobby stores. This makes me soangry!

Upon questioning them about this, the answer goes something like this.... Well they're in the Public Domain and you don't have the rights or you can't re-copyright something that is in the Public Domain. Well that's somewhat true but I'm not protecting the original image, I'm protecting the modifications I've made to the original image. If they can take my files and remove all the restorations and modifications that I've made and return it to the original state, then all the power to them. Do it, then use the image. If not keep your hands off.

And then they add something like... These are just simple scans of existing images. Well folks, I hate to bust your bubbles, but my images are NOT just simple scans of an already existing image. I devote a lot of time, energy and money to my images and my collection. It can take hours and hours to complete the editing on just one card and for these arragont people to classify that as minimal or simple just irrates me to death. If it's so simple why don't they do exactly what I do, purchase the vintage card, scan it and perform their own editing. Then they don't have to worry about stealing someone else' work.

They have no idea (or don't care) that it can take months for me to get enough images ready to publish just one CD. And they are arrogant enough to not even inquire as to whether or not they can use the image. They'd rather steal it and hope you don't discover that fact.

I'm not ready to share the name of the company yet because I'm hoping that we can reach an equiptable agreement. But I will tell you that the company base is in Iowa.

Piracy is a big issue, so please, please, give it a serious thought when you see an image that you really love and want to copy it for your blog or craft item and you think, Well what does that hurt? I'm just a little guy. Well, maybe that image was created by just another little guy and he may have spent a lot of time creating it. I'd be willing to bet that the little guy would greatly appreciate you asking first. He might say no, but that's his prerogative and he might surprise you and give you a big YES!

Fourth, if you've been following my blog for a while, you might remember that a year ago August, we lost a very important and a central member of our family. My dear father-in-law was one of the strongest, sweetest, kindest men (next to my daddy of course) that I've ever known. Was he perfect? Heck no, but he was always there for us during the good and bad times and we were always there for him and Mom during their good and bad times.

Dad was the sole caretaker for Mom who is suffering from dementia/Alzheimers. Of course when Dad was diagnosed with his terminal cancer, his main concern was Mom and who would take care of her. Dad and Mom decided who they wanted to help make their decisions and care for them. They completed the appropriate legal paperwork. This should have been sufficient for the family to handle everything.

But my husband's half-sister was hurt and offended that she wasn't selected as the primary caretaker for this responsibility. So instead of working it out in the family, she snuck around and filed a Guardianship case with the Courts. She completed this activity even before Dad passed. And she was so cowardly in her actions that she didn't even advise him of it prior to him being served with the notice from the court. Now if you're not aware, Guardianship is the last thing that should ever be forced upon any individual. All rights to any decision making is taken totally away from the individual. A jail inmate has more rights than a person who has been assigned a guardian.

This hurt Dad tremendously. In our opinion, the extra stress resulted in Dad passing sooner than he should have. Instead of being there when he needed her, she did everything in her power to make him miserable and to increase the tensions within the family. She lied to the courts, she lied to family and friends, she lied to doctors and lawyers and I truely believe she would have went to almost any extent to try and get what she wanted.

When the whole family should have pulled together to support Dad and make his last days full of suuport, love and encourgement, she was conspiring to make Dad as miserable as possible.

Over the year and a half, the rift has expanded to such a depth that it will probably never be healed. We have lost any and all respect that we had for her. And truthfully, it would make us extrememly happy if we never had to see her face or hear or voice again.

But as far as the guardianship case, it is finally resolved. And do you want to know what persuaded her to end it? You won't believe the answer... the scheduling of her deposition. She was terribly afraid of being put under oath. She was willing to give in and agree to almost anything to get out of having to do the deposition.

The resolution is 98% of what Dad and Mom wanted, not what step daughter wanted. We are thrilled that it is over and we know that Dad is finally resting easy. Now, we can focus on getting Mom some relief from all the misdeeds that were completed against her. This means more legal work for us, but hopefully it will result in a much more comfortable life for Mom.

Whew that was a lot! Thank you for bearing with, providing me with an ear to bend and sticking it out to the end. All in all it's been a pretty awesome time and I am thrilled that most everything has turned out on a positive note.

Maybe I'll brighten your day with this gorgeous Three Kings image. I don't often share religious images and I thought you might like it. Make sure you click on the image before you save it.

Have a great week, plumb full of smiles!

Last week I promised you I'd show Kaiden's Easter Egg Hunting outfit. It's always so hard to figure out what to do for a boy. I have tons of sweet Easter images but somehow a cute bunny, chick or duck just didn't fit Kaiden's personality. After much searching I did find a little duck all dressed up in a military uniform carrying a gun. I didn't think the gun was quite appropriate for Easter so I got busy with Photo Shop and here's the completed layout.

Here' Kaiden showing off his Easter Egg Hunting outfit.

Here's the bunny with the posy of flowers and Kaiden's duck for you to use in any last minute Easter projects. Make sure you click on it so you get the full size image.

I have one more Kaiden picture to share with you. But first you need a little info. Kaiden is a typical boy. He is pretty stubborn and has a mind of his own. When he's doing something he's not supposed to he doesn't like the word no. He's one where he'll look at you and continue doing whatever he has a mind to do. So when he was first learning to talk and was busy with his no activities I'd swoop him up and laughingly call him my demon child. He quickly learned this phrase and started calling himself a demon child. Well he's grown out of that now but this picture brought back the demon child memories for me.

Have a great week full of smiles and don't forget to submit your contest entry

Published Images and PeggyLovesVintage Contest

I'm so excited! The totally talented and wonderful Regina Easter from Bitten By The Bug (BBTB) is published in the CARDMAKER magazine, March 2010 issue page 48 to be exact. And she used one of my baby images on the card she published. It's a beautiful card and you just have to check it out! Be sure and visit her blog and congratulate her on her accomplishment.

Regina used this image

Which is available on the New Baby Volume 1 CD located in the etsy store and ebay store and web store where you can satisfy all your Vintage image needs.

Now on to the contest. My granddaughter and I spent the day yesterday making our cards. We brought out my stash of craft supplies and just went to town. We had a grand time and now I have glitter from one end of my house to the other, but it was well worth it! So anyway...the unveiling of our works of art!

Jordan first, she's 5 years old and has been crafting since she was about 2. She's my best crafting buddy and we always have a good time. The only thing Grandma really helped with was the card stock base that she used. She wanted to do a stand up card and the black card stock wasn't very thick. So we attached it to some white Georgia Pacific to make it sturdier. Grandma cut out a nice square for her to decorate. She used two different sizes of wooden hearts, one size was red and the other size was orange, that she glued togethered. Red rhinestones were added to some sparkly snowflakes. She also used foil hearts, vintage buttons, lace embellishments that I don't think you can see in the pic and some red bows and of course lots of glitter. For the inside of her card she used a computer generated sentiment that she created and typed herself. The inside was embellished with some I Love You ribbon and of course more glitter. She was so excited about her card, she just had to sign and date it before we got the pic. Great Job Jordan! Watch out sis...here's your future competition!

I've never claimed to be a card maker, I usually only get into making cards for Christmas and Valentines (smile), my two most favorite holidays. But anyway, I went ahead and gave it a shot and like I promised last week, here's my completed card. Now don't laugh!

So, last week I explained how I created my images. I added some little foil hearts to the corners and an open foil heart in the middle of main pink heart. I attached the main image to black card stock. I wanted it to be offset just a little on the black. I also added some gorgeous ribbon which is shimmery and has flower patterns on it which you really can't see unless you view it big. The background paper is my digi roses and pink paper which (sigh) still isn't listed in the stores but it will get there one of these days. The corners looked pretty bare to me so I decided I'd add some of my left over calendar project flowers with a few of the shiny foil hearts added for interest. I had just enough flowers to do one corner. Oh Well, that's life (smile). I'll have to go to the craft store to see if I can find something for the opposite corner.

For the inside, I kept it pretty simple. I attached the sentiment to black card stock and then just added some really pretty gold wire ribbon at the top. I used the digi roses and pink paper.

Here's Sharon's - Gramma's House of Cards - completed card. Of course, she's very talented and as always has created a masterpiece for us to oooo and ahhhh over. Take a moment and visit her blog to see her other great cards and projects.

Ok now, we've shared ours, are you ready to share yours? Come on, go ahead and do it!
We'd love to see all the great work out there. It doesn't have to be a card, any kind of project can be submitted. So just visit last weeks blog and leave a comment with a link or send me an email with a pic of your project and you'll be entered to win any 2 cut outs of your choice from my stores.

Have a great week full of smiles!

Introducing Birthday Volume 2

Yeah! Birthday Vol 2 is almost ready. All the images are cleaned and boy is that the hardest part! Now I just have to make the video and create the html code for the listings. With a little luck, it should show up in my etsy store and ebay store this week and in the web store next week.

This Birthday Volume has adult birthday cards from 8 different scrapbooks dating from 1939 to 1966. It contains 102 different cards most of which are from the 1940's.

I've included some of the sample images in this post. If you'd like to see more samples take a look at my photobucket album. PeggyLovesVintage Album or just click on any of the images below.

Merry Christmas Project

Well, Christmas is almost here. It's snowing today, nothing like out east, but off and on there's flakes in the air. We're supposed to get more later in the week, just in time for a white Christmas. The grandkids are full of anticipation just waiting for Santa to get here. I just love this season!

Every year I do some kind of Christmas project. I waited till now to post my project because I wanted it to be a surprise for the recipients. I know they've all received them, so now I can share.

This year I decided to create a calendar. I thought that it would be something that I could whip up pretty quickly, it was something that everyone could use and could also function as our Christmas Card for family and close friends. Sounds good right... but it turned out to be a bigger challenge then what I had anticipated.

I'm not really a card creator. I leave that job to my sis who does wonderful work and I'm sure a lot of you know who she is and are well aware of her talents. But anyway... this year instead of doing my flat, created in a hurry, PC generated cards, I decided to be a little more creative. I had most of the supplies I needed on hand. I did have to purchase some black card stock. some foam dimensional squares and some embellishments. I had a pair of scissors that cut with the pattern, so I could add some interests to the edges. So with the white card stock I had on hand, I was ready to start my adventure.

I have a Santa image that I just absolutely love! I'm a Santa fanatic and this image is my most favorite of all! He was selected to grace the front of the calendar. The striped paper with snowflakes in the Poinsettia and Snowflake digi paper group (listed in both my ebay and etsy stores) was selected for the front and the last page of the calendar.

I cut a square of the black card stock using the special scissors and pasted the Santa image in the center.

I also have a holly digi paper which isn't listed yet but one of these days it will be in the stores. I used this holly paper for the frame. In order to save ink, Photo Shop was used to the create frames with white centers. I cut the outside edges of the holly frame with the special scissors and the inside of the frame with regular scissors.

Then using the black card stock and the special scissors, thin strips were cut and pasted on the inside edge of holly paper frame.

Foam dimensionals were added to the back of the holly frame to pop the whole thing up from the Santa base.

Flowers were attached to corners of the frame.

Here's the finished front.

The whole piece was then glued to the striped snowflake paper and walla all done... with one that is. Only 15 more to make.... Here's the whole front page all put together.

I found this wonderful site full of quotes for the various seasons and months. So I selected a quote for each month and then searched my images to find one that supported the quote. Here's the site for the quotes if you're ever in need of one. Quotes Using Photo Shop the image and the quote were combined into a single .jpg image.

Here's January's and December's page with the image and quote completed. Click on the image and you'll be able to see an up close view.

Photo Explosion was used to create the individual calendar month images and each month was saved as .jpg so they could be edited.

I found a web site that had all the holidays listed. This was a great help in identifying dates like Mother's Day, Father's Day and Easter. Here's the link for that site if you're ever have a need to determine a date. Special Holidays
Using Photo Shop, notations were added for the holidays throughout the year.

I selected images to use on extra special holidays. Using Photo Shop the images were re sized so they were really tiny and were then added to the months .jpg images. So here's the finished January and December pages. If you click on the images you'll get an up close view.

A three hole punch was used for the holes on the top also for the hanging hole.

After several false starts, I finally settled on using a rope ribbon to tie the whole package together. Originally, I thought that jump rings might work for this but on the test calender the weight of the paper on the ring seemed to rip the holes. So the rope ribbon seemed to be the better choice. Make sure to leave extra room with the ribbon so that the calender can be opened all the way and show both pages for a month. I struggled with this on the first one. But I found that if I placed a pen on the top and wrapped the ribbon around the pen and then tied it, there was just enough ribbon to fully open the calender without crimping the paper.

Once all the holes were tied, I was able to easily pull the pen out. A drop of glue was added on each knot to help keep it tied.

As a result of the jump ring failure, I thought it might be a good idea to reinforce the holes on at least the first few pages. So I added a little strip on the bottom of the page before it was three hole punched. This made the card stock stronger to help keep the holes from tearing.

So here's how a completed page will look when it's hanging up.

My goal was to create 15 calendars which really meant 360 pages, counting the front and back of each page. So just a small word of caution, because I used so many images and had so many to make, it took me 16 hours to complete the printing and 2 cartridges of ink. This of course included several reprints because I reloaded paper wrong (smile) or the holes where put on the wrong edge or the paper wasn't lined up in the hole punch correctly etc. You know, just those little mess ups that frustrate the dickens out of you.

All in all, it was a fun and a challenging project. I was pleased with the completed project and hope my family and friends enjoy them.

Have a wonderful Christmas and I hope it's just plumb full of smiles!
Peggy
